Raiders visit Westshore Saturday in BCFC Island rivalry

Jul 29, 2016 | 12:42 PM

The VI Raiders take their 1-0 record to Westshore on Saturday Night.

Last Saturday the Raiders took care of the Kamloops Broncos 37-14 at Caledonia Park, while the Rebels dropped Langley 42-34 on the weekend.

Raiders Head Coach Jerome Erdman says the natural Island rivalry will make this game special.

“You’re going down there and it’s a rivalry game.  Even during regular games there’s lots of emotion but this is ramped up exponentially.  The challenge is keeping that under control, still being disciplined, and not letting the crowd which is going to be raucous get an effect on you and just playing your game,” said Erdman.

Against Kamloops the Raiders didn’t allow a point until the fourth quarter, but Erdman knows there’s still room for improvement.

“Westshore brings a different type of game so offensively we’re going to have to adjust a little bit.  Defense I thought they played very well so that’s more just honing in and polishing up.  Special teams we have to get better at some of our coverages, we let a kick off return for a touchdown which can’t happen again.”

Game time Saturday is 7pm at Westhills Stadium.
