NANAIMO — RCMP have arrested a man they believe is responsible for two bank robberies this week in Nanaimo.

Police said a 46-year-old man was arrested following a robbery at the TD Canada Trust location on Dufferin Cres. on Thursday evening.

The suspect allegedly received cash from a teller after handing them a note before running outside to the taxi waiting for him. RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said police tracked down the cab minutes later near the Comox Rd. and Prideaux St. intersection.

“He was taken into custody after a brief struggle,” O’Brien said. “On him, officers found bear spray, a knife and a replica firearm, along with a quantity of cash which we believe was from the bank.”
