VICTORIA — Last weekend the Nanaimo Rowing Club took part in the Duelling Over a Grand Regatta at Elk Lake.

The Mixed Masters Double of Matthew Gall and Megan Knight won their first three races to move directly to the final and concluded the weekend with a victory.

Ian Rogers and Ethan Watchorn competed in the Junior Under 19 Men’s Double and had seven races over the two days.

Three wins on the ‘B side’ of the competition Sunday put them into the final where they finished in second place.

It was a second place performance as well for Michael Jonah-Bigg, Markus Jonah-Bigg, Peter Rogers and William Rogers in the Junior Under 17 Men’s Quad.

They also ended up on the ‘B side’ after Saturday and eventually lost out to a team from the Victoria City Rowing Club in Sunday’s final.

In the Junior Under 17 Women’s Quad, Megan Duifhuis led a crew with Maddie Stewart, Emilia Maras-Hilling and Michelle Mulcahy.

The foursome ended up with a win and two losses.

Other Nanaimo competitors include Joanne Van Oosten, Karen Knight, Janice Johnson and Kate Rutherford who went into the Mixed Masters event as the only all female crew, the rest of the foursomes had two men and two women.

Chase Murphy teamed up with Shamus Inglis to race in the Junior Under 19 Men’s Double.

This weekend the Nanaimo club’s junior rowers are heading to Duncan for the Maple Bay Regatta on April 13.
