People injured and killed on the job recognized in Nanaimo

NANAIMO — Honouring people injured or who didn’t make it home at all while working will be recognized during a ceremony in downtown Nanaimo.

A local Day of Mourning BC ceremony takes place Sunday, April 28 at Pioneer Waterfront Plaza on Front St. at 12 p.m.

According to Day of Mourning BC, 131 workers died in the province from a workplace injury or disease last year, down from 158 in 2017.

Flags were placed at half-mast Friday at City of Nanaimo facilities to pay tribute to those killed or injured on the workplace.
